Kelly Takes on France

The Good, The Bad, the Awkward. Stories of an American trying to fit in with the French

I have to say, I have been so blessed throughout my life to meet some awesome friends, where ever I am. And even here I have some AMAZING friends.

Last night could have been the worst night I’ve had yet in France. It started off as really good, hanging out with some assistants to celebrate a birthday. After a while we decided to go to a club. I got there after the majority of the group, and I had to pee really bad. I found the assistants in the club, and there was a group of them by a table so I put my stuff on a chair at the table where they were so I could used the restroom. I was gone maybe for 3 minutes and when I got back all of my stuff was gone. I was freaking out, I admit it. I wasn’t thinking straight after a while and started to panic, all of my money, my ID, my bank cards, my bus pass, my keys, my camera, all of it was gone.

Well a few assistants came to my rescue. Maddie asked the bouncers who to talk to and talked to the club manager, who said honestly people go to clubs just to steal bags when people are looking. Mario and Sabella were trying to comfort me and Stewart made me stand at the door in case someone tried to leave with the bag.

Now Nicole and Danielle, they were my superheroes last night. As I was talking to the bouncers and staying at the door, they left the club to go look for some police so I could file a report and maybe even see the person who took my stuff. Thanks to them the night went from horrendous to Kick Ass. Nicole and Danielle saw some girls walking out with my bag! They confronted the girls and got my bag back! I didn’t get my jacket back and my cell phone was in my jacket pocket, but I only have a pay as you go phone and I can buy a new jacket. But seriously, Nicole and Danielle saved my butt. I have my bag, and everything in it, even the cash was still there.

Some of the friends I’ve made are true rockstars for me, and I’m soo lucky to have them.

I also learned two very valuable lessons last night:

1. Never EVER leave your stuff unattended, even if you think it is with friends. Keep it on your person at all times. and

2. You really can get by with a little help from your friends.
